New Hampshire Firearms Coalition, Inc.

January 24, 2006 Bill Status Report

SB318 is an initiative of the New Hampshire Firearms Coalition, Inc.   The Senate Judiciary Committee hearing took place January 19, 2006.  This is very important legislation for New Hampshire citizens.  It will allow you to protect yourself and your loved ones at home and away - even in your vehicle.  Expect opposition to this from various groups.    Please contact the members of  the Senate Judiciary Committee and ask that they vote the bill "ought to pass".

SB348 is an initiative of the New Hampshire Firearms Coalition, Inc.   We would like to make certain that confiscation of firearms during a "so called" state of emergency never happens within the borders of New Hampshire like it did in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina.   There may be a friendly amendment coming forward to strengthen the legislation.  Watch this page.

HB1369 -  The New Hampshire Firearms Coalition, Inc.  is opposed to HB1369 as written.
It was supposedly introduced to stop the posting of "no guns" signs on public property.   However, it is poorly written and would actually authorize the use of more "no guns" signs.   At the January 19, 2006  public hearing before the House Criminal Justice and Public Safety Committee, an NHFC representative proposed an amendment that would correct the bill and strengthen current pre-emption law.

HB1386 - This bill poses a threat to New Hampshire’s pistol / revolver  license.  It would change the license to an all encompassing “weapons” license by allowing the holder to carry automatic (switchblades) and double edged knives.    The New Hampshire pistol / revolver  license has been a firearms license for 83 years and it has worked well.   If the proponents are interested in authorizing the carry of certain types of knives they should be honest and seek a repeal of R.S.A. 159:16.   The committee hearing was on January 19, 2006 and NHFC representatives explained that HB1386 will weaken our "best in the nation" pistol / revolver license.    We are aggressively pursuing this and will keep you informed.

HB1389 - Opposed by The New Hampshire Firearms Coalition, Inc.   This bill is poorly drafted and like HB1369 this bill actually could put more restrictions on carrying firearms.  Current law already addresses carrying firearms in vehicles.
