2008 RANGE CLOSURE ACT
Rep. Alfred Baldasaro of Londonderry
and Rep. Jason Bedrick of Windham are proposing legislation to create
regulations for shooting ranges where none now exist. They want
cities and towns to be able
to regulate --- and even close your
range.
Reps. Baldasaro and Bedrick will
allow a city or town to close a range if it has "has created a
demonstrable safety hazard to individuals using the facilities and
activities on adjacent property or on adjacent public rights of way;"
This is undefined, anti gun administrators will make any
and all claims of "demonstrable safety hazard" merely to close a range.
Just look at what happend to Lone Pine Hunter's Club in Hollis.
If HB1474 or HB1476 passes no range anywhere in New Hampshire
will be safe.
Reps. Baldasaro and Bedrick think
that it is OK for cities and towns to charge fees up to $500 for
inspection and certification of your shooting range. Imagine that, an
inspection of your range by the town and you have to pay for it!
But it gets worse, the so called "inspection" must be conducted
by the County Sheriff. If the Sheriff is anti gun your range
will never pass inspection and will stay closed.
HB1476 is just as bad. It says
that ranges must be "...in compliance with nationally recognized
safety standards" An anti gun town official might consult
the Brady Campaign or the Violence Policy Center. They are, in fact so
called "national" organizations. Their standards of course will
be designed to close ranges.
NH has one of the best Range
Protection Laws in the Country! More regulation will only hurt firearms
owners, not help them! Your help is needed to stop this legislation.
